Compass Veterinary Neurology & Imaging is an independently owned and operated neurology/neurosurgery practice offering veterinary internship opportunities to candidates interested in pursuing a neurology/neurosurgery residency. We are a member of the Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC) in Annapolis, which includes a 24-hour emergency service, as well as board-certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, rehabilitation therapy, ophthalmology, radiation oncology, and radiology all within our spacious 28,000-square foot facility.

What We Offer

CVNI is seeking a motivated neurology/neurosurgery specialty intern to join our team of board-certified neurologists. We provide world-class diagnostics, treatment, and care for over 1,200 patients a year. We are equipped with an onsite 1.5T MRI, a 16-slice Helical CT, digital radiography, a mobile fluoroscopy and C-arm unit, electrophysiology equipment, a SonoCure unit, and two dedicated neurosurgical suites. We have dedicated veterinarians on our imaging team who oversee anesthesia on all MRI and CT cases. Our support staff includes licensed veterinary technicians, a licensed veterinary rehabilitation technician, and a 24-hour emergency service.

About Our Internship and Externship Programs

This is a 12-month neurology specialty internship. Approximately 90% of the intern’s time will be spent with the neurology team. The intern will train in anesthesia with our imaging team and may be required to assist in imaging and/or anesthesia periodically.

Additional clinical rotations can include:

  • Internal Medicine (1 week)
  • Surgery (2 weeks)
  • Elective Time (2 weeks)

Weekly teaching rounds include neurology rounds (journal club, topic rounds, textbook chapters), as well as evening rounds with the emergency and internal medicine services. A small research project and/or case study will be presented at the end of the internship.

The goals of this internship include proficiency in:

  • Cisternal cerebrospinal fluid collection
  • Management of acute and chronic neurological diseases
  • Evaluation of hospitalized patients
  • Basic MRI and CT interpretation
  • Advancement of neurosurgical skills and knowledge
